Awesome trick for cooking steak

I always have the most trouble explaining to people the proper way to tell when steak is cooked.  The first side is easy enough: you just wait until the brown color has creeped most of the way up the sides of the piece of meat before flipping it.  But as for the second side, I’m always telling people unhelpful things like, “Oh, I don’t really time it.  It depends…you can just tell by how it feels.”

This is a much more helpful trick.  It’s not perfect, but it will give you a good first approximation and you can experiment from there.
