Vacation Update

IMG_1972

Greetings, from Seattle!  I’m having a great time with the in-laws so far.  Among other things, I found the hat that went with the husband’s childhood lederhosen.  I think it’s a nice look, don’t you?

This afternoon we were treated to some good German comfort food:  pasta with spicy sausage, green bell pepper and onion and a grating of parmesan cheese.  Luckily, I managed to get a quick photo of it during cooking.  It was very yummy.

For dinner, the husband and his dad decided to have a steak cook-off.  Of course we put the husband’s steak in my secret family marinade (soy sauce and crushed garlic)

Here we are, in the thick of the action.  The steaks on the left are ours and the steaks on the right are my father-in-laws.

In the end, nobody could decide whose was better.  But everyone loved the secret marinade and kept trying to guess what was in it.  People guessed ginger, honey, sugar, and various spices.  Everyone was shocked at how simple the ingredients actually were.

We also had to barbecue corn.  The husband’s mom also made a great tabbouleh-inspired couscous salad that I didn’t get a picture of.

That’s all for now.  Our anniversary is tomorrow, so we have fun things planned for that!

That’s awesome that your family had a “steak-off” and I love your simple marinade. It sounds perfect for steaks and I can’t wait to try it with chicken.

Jenn–the marinade tastes amazing with chicken! It’s my family’s “secret” all-purpose marinade and we put it on everthing: Steak, chicken, fish, tofu…you name it.
