German Dinner

This dinner, while not specifically German, has always seemed very German in feel to me:  Mustard marinated grilled chicken tenders, boiled red potatoes, and cabbage (sauteed in a bit of canola oil and seasoned with salt, pepper and nutmeg).  The cabbage is really the star of the dish.  Even if you don’t like cabbage, you should really try it this way.  It takes on a whole different character when cooked:  soft and buttery and delicious.  And nutmeg makes any savory dish better.  The mustard marinade is also one of my favorites because it is one of the easiest ways to dress up chicken or pork…just add some mustard to a plastic bag and add some frozen meat.  By the time it is thawed, the meat will taste sharp and mustard-y–a great contrast to the milder flavored cabbage.

And in keeping with our theme, I had some cinnamon applesauce for dessert.

  1. Ich liebe deutsche Nahrung! 🙂

  2. all you need is a big mug of beer!
